I think I’m ready to launch…

So, today we really go live, instead of the I’m almost getting there message I’ve had up for way too long. If you were a subscriber from ‘The Rauch Motel’, I’ve changed the feed and redirected it here, so you won’t need to do anything.

If you subscribe to Bloglovin’, I’ve added it to this site, so you can now follow me there too.

And if you’re new, welcome. Glad to have you. 😀

Dressing up for the office

One of the best things about working from home is not having to do the whole dress up thing. While I could sit around in my pjs, I find I’m not as productive when I do, and it can get awkward if someone comes to the door, so I tend to at least put on clothes that I wouldn’t be embarrassed to wear out in public.

But, where most days you’ll find me in yoga pants and some kind of geeky t-shirt, every once in a while I take on an on-site project where I need to look all office-ey.

Which is what I’m doing today. I actually really like the outfit I put together. The dress is a little shorter than I usually wear, and I wouldn’t complain if it were a smidge longer, and I wish my boots were a bit taller so they didn’t emphasize my already wide calves, but otherwise, it works… and the dress is super comfortable, so this might be a new staple.

What to Wear: Pretty at the Office

1. Cross-Front Sweater Dress (Heather Charcoal)
2. George Pink Tights
3. Black lace-up boots (these aren’t exactly the ones I have, which I bought at a little store years ago…)
4. Pink Tote
5. Floral Cutout Bracelet
6. Black Patent Stretch Belt
7. Lace trimmed black bra top

Looking at it all together, I think next time I’d add a statement necklace, something like this, this, or even this. I don’t own any of these, but that gun metal necklace totally needs to come home with me…

This wall needs to be striped

Our back hallway has a crazy amount of wasted space – it’s just a lot of long walls with doors to other rooms – my office, a couple of closets, the basement, the side door and our family room.To avail doors like this you can also contact the experts as they can help you out.

I have a pile of big plans for it – a gallery wall, a faux mud room, new floor, and especially new paint – anything to get rid of the horrible beigey-peach that it currently is. (I think the people we bought the house from must have found a big sale on this ugly colour, because it is all over the house. <sad face>)

The other day, I was standing in the hall talking to TJ and I looked around and said, ‘these walls need to be striped’. He… well, he said what he always says when I mention the big plans I have – That’s gonna be a pain in the butt to do (he may not have used the word ‘butt’). And yeah, it is, but when I started pinning striped walls on Pinterest, I just know it’s going to be worth it.

My initial plan was going to be a subtle grey/white stripe, similar to this one:

But, I love the big bold stripes on this wall:

And I’m totally smitten with these sideways chevrons (also, I can’t find the source of this image. If you can point me in the right direction, I’d love to find it…)

or even these less bold ones:

And I think gold would totally add a bit of dramatic flair to the hallway…

though there’s very little gold in my house, so I might do silver instead. But I still dig the shiny gold:

Or, I could go colourful, but I’m not sure how that would blend with the flooring I plan to put in:

And yes, I realize that two of these are from 4 Men 1 Lady. But I love Michelle’s decor. Think she’ll let me move in?

What do you think – are stripes on a big crazy hallway too much stripes or do you think it’ll look as awesome as I do?

That whole starting fresh thing

Welcome to Add a Little Pretty!

I’ve been playing with the design for months, trying to get it just right, and adding all the cool stuff to make this theme even more exciting, but, more and more I’m finding myself blogging in my head, so today, we start doing it for reals (and it helps to have content to show off all that cool stuff…).

I have gone through a few incarnations of my blogging life – from my time as a copywriter to editing for a romance publisher and a false start as The Rauch Motel (Which is funny when you know my name but gets odd looks when you don’t. <g> ), but I think this one is the right fit.

The plan for the new blog is to share my quest to add a little pretty to my life – in my style, in my home, in my body, and in my work. So, we’ll talk some DIY, some fashion, some recipes, and even some WordPress and blogging tips and tricks.

The new design is a highly modified version of Instamate by Graph Paper Press, though I borrowed from some of their other themes for functionality and added a whole lot of pretty to the look (or at least a whole lot of pink).

So here’s to a little more pretty on the web…
